This dwarf shrub forms colonies by layering its growth in thicknesses of approx. 1.5 cm. The plants grow along the ground forming mats with oval serrated leaves. As long as there is sun, they will grow on calcareous or granite rocks and boulders, gravel, sand beaches, outcrops or snowbeds. Areas for good growth can be moist or dry.
